World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades can boost the value of certain numeric stats on weapons, armor and rings. Upgrades also increase bonuses such as crit chance and PvE Damage.

For example, a weapon with the upgrade template that is ending in % will take on 3damage to attack each time it upgrades (relative to its previous value).

Item upgrading costs crests and the item's current level. The cost rises with item's level.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be slotted into armor, weapons and trinkets to give an extra stat boost or effect while they're in use. They can be obtained through making crafts, buying from vendors, trading with other players, or looting. Some upgrades have special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into any equipment that has a slot to accommodate them. The item must be at least upgraded to the blue level in order for the component to be applied. Upgrade components, unlike other mods, can only be applied once. They cannot be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and Enrichments are a type of upgrade item component that can be used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and Ascended equipment, as well in some items that aren't ascended. Infusions and Enrichments can be obtained by salvaging equipment from the ascended state or completing a quest in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.
